What are you favorite lines from a song? Not like the entire lyrics, but just favorite piece of a song?

Mine's from Aesop Rock's "Daylight"

"Life's Not a Bitch, Life is a Beautiful Woman
You Only Call Her a Bitch Because She Won't Let You Get That Pussy
Maybe She Didn't Feel Ya'all Shared Any Similar Interests.
Or Maybe You're Just An Asshole Who Couldn't Sweet Talk a Princess"

I like it because I know SO many people that this applies to, and it was just so clever.

And two sets from opposite ends of the same song:

And one day we will die
and our ashes will fly
from the aeroplane over the sea
but for now we are young
let us lay in the Sun
And count every beautiful thing we can see

What a beautiful face
I have found in this place
That is circling all round the sun
And when we meet on a cloud
I'll be laughing out loud
I'll be laughing with everyone I see
Can't believe how strange it is to be anything at all

-Neutral Milk Hotel Aeroplane over the Sea.....God that song is amazing.

You run and you run to catch up with the sun, but its sinking.
And racing around to come up behind you again.
The sun is the same in a relative way, but you're older.
Shorter of breath, one day closer to death.

I wish I could listen to music at work.

Good album, pick up Meddle and Obscured by Clouds. If you enjoy, then give Atom Heart Mother a try.

It's on Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band Side B, don't know the exact song; I saw the photograph; He blew his mid out in a car; He didn't notice the lights had changed; A crowd looked and stared.

That would be 'Day in the Life'

Excellent song and excellent album. Pretty much all of the Pink Floyd songs have good lyrics. The lyrics from "Brain Damage" and "Hey You" are good, but my favorite lyrics are from "Comfortably Numb".

There is no pain you are receding
A distant ship, smoke on the horizon.
You are only coming through in waves.
Your lips move but I can't hear what you're saying.
When I was a child I had a fever
My hands felt just like two balloons.
Now I've got that feeling once again
I can't explain you would not understand
This is not how I am.
I have become comfortably numb.

I wouldn't want you to want
To be wanted by me
I wouldn't want you to worry
You'd be drowned within my sea
I only wanted to be wonderful
And wonderful is true
In truth I only really wanted
To be wanted by you

Never gonna give you up
Never gonna let you down
Never gonna run around and desert you
Never gonna make you cry
Never gonna say goodbye
Never gonna tell a lie and hurt you

Hey but I don't care
Cause sometimes
I said sometimes
I hear my voice
And it's been here
Silent All These Years

The first few times I heard that song I though he was singing:

We're gonna give you up
We're gonna let you down
We're gonna run around and desert you
We're gonna make you cry
We're gonna say goodbye
We're gonna tell a lie and hurt you

It made a better song that way.

Anyway, on to the question at hand:

If I could stick a knife in my heart
Suicide right on stage
Would it be enough for your teenage lust
Would it help to ease the pain? Ease your brain?

The Queers - Ursula Finally Has Tits
She went to the drugstore and I saw what she bought
Maxi-pads, tampons, and a training bra
Eyeshadow, lipstick, smoking cigarettes
I think there's something that she needs to get off her chest

CKY - All Power to Slaves
We're freed from the inferior shell
there was no way to tell
A sacred new beginning
when their feeble kingdom fell

The best lyrics I've ever come across are from MC 900 Ft Jesus (Mark Griffin) and his song "The City Sleeps"

link to lyrics

The song explores the mind of a serial arsonist, and is sung in a mellow musical rap style.

Sample:

stealin' down an alley on a cold dark night
i see a halo in the rain 'round a street light
i stop and look and listen to the sound
as the raindrops penetrate the silence all around

alone, i gaze into the glistening street
the distant thunder echoing my hearbeat
urging me on to a secret goal
away from the light from this lamp on a pole

so i turn
slip away into the rain
drifting like a spirit through the shadows in the lane
clutching the tools of my trade in my hand
an old box of matches and a gasoline can

darkness envelops the scene like a shroud
a veil of emptiness hangs from the clouds
filling up the cracks in this desolate place
cradled by the night in an icy embrace

Are we not the undisputed prodigy of warfare
Fearing all the mediocrity that they possess
Should we not hunt the bastards down with our might
Reinforce and claim the throne that is rightfully ours

Consider the God we could be without the grace
Once and for all
Diminish the sub principle and leave it's toxic trace
Once and for all

The roses in the window box
Have tilted to one side
Everything about this house
Was born to grow and die

Oh it doesn't seem a year ago
To this very day
You said I'm sorry honey
If I don't change the pace
I can't face another day

And love lies bleeding in my hand
Oh it kills me to think of you with another man
I was playing rock and roll and you were just a fan
But my guitar couldn't hold you
So I split the band
Love lies bleeding in my hands

I wonder if those changes
Have left a scar on you
Like all the burning hoops of fire
That you and I passed through

You're a bluebird on a telegraph line
I hope you're happy now
Well if the wind of change comes down your way girl
You'll make it back somehow

here's one, never heard the song but love the lyrics

Here I sit and watch my world come crumbling down
I cry for help but no one's around
Silently screaming I bang my head against the wall
It seems like no one cares at all
Always an emotion, but how can I explain
How can I explain
Kind of like the scent of a rose
With words I can't explain
The same with my pain
Caught up in emotion-Goes over my head
Goes over my head
Sometimes I got to think to myself is this life or death
Am I living or am I dead
The clock keeps ticking but nothing else seems to change
Problems never solved, just rearranged
And when I think about all the times that I've had
So few good-So many bad
I search for personality and I look for things I can not see

Love and peace flash through my mind
Pain and hate are all I find
Find no hope in nothing new
Never had a dream come true
Lies and hate and agony
Thru my eyes that's all I see
If I'm gonna cry
Will you wipe away my tears?
If I'm gonna die
Lord please take away my fear
Before I drown in sorrow
Last thing that I'll say
How will I laugh tommorow
If I can't even smile today

depressing as hell but awesome

Some balls are held for charity
And some for fancy dress
But when they're held for pleasure
They're the balls that I like best
And my balls are always bouncing
To the left and to the right
It's my belief that my big balls should be held every night

Exodus' Cajun Hell has all the traits that good lyrics contain: grittiness, violence, anger, and humor.

Down in the bayou where the alligators roam
Live some people, you leave them alone
Getting lost may be your last mistake
Unfriendly strangers, unkindly they take
Living off the fat of the land
They hold their justice in the palm of their hand
Lay down your gun and surrender quiet
Or there's gonna be a Cajun riot

Raising hell, and they're ready for fighting
Huntin' gators and drinking white lightning
Brewin' moonshine at a still in the swamp
Playing Creole from dusk until dawn
Protect their own is the law of the land
Mess with their law it will get out of hand
Keep it in mind if you're ever down there
It might be fatal, you better beware

Danger in the swamp, that waits for you
There's nothing left that you can do
Better watch your back, for the vicious attack
'Cause they'll be looking for you
Playing with your life, for your life is too short
Pain is too good for you
Your last breath, is all you have left
Take it before you're doomed
Cajun hell
Before you're doomed
