I really hate Christmas music, but there are a few songs that even I'll admitt to liking...

Doris Day does a really swank version of "Let it Snow!," I really love Ella Fitzgerald singing "The Christmas Song" and "The Secret of Christmas," and that Barenaked Ladies / Sarah McLachlan version of "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen" is pretty catchy.

the worst definitely has to go to that insufferable Barbra Steisand "Jingle Bells" song, though, with any song referencing a rocking, surfing, or rapping santa coming in at a collectively close second ;)

I like most Christmas music recorded by real artists such as Bing Crosby, Sammy Davis Jr., Frank Sinatra, or Dean Martin. I'm not really into many modern remakes or any of the classic songs.

i was just talking about this topic with my husband this past evening.

I really like traditional Christmas carols like O Come Emmuel, Hark the Herald Angels Sing, What Child Is This... those types of songs... i suppose because they come with fond memories of my parents and childhood. Plus, i do not hear them played hardly at all on the radio, whereas the other ones like Let It Snow and Jingle Bells are too over played and used.

When i hear the more religious songs, i feel as though i am brought back to what we are celebrating for. I stop bitching that i didnt get enough gifts for everyone, that the lines are too long, etc and become happy that i can spend this time with loved ones.

Mario Lanza's "Christmas Hymns and Carols" is my favorite Christmas album of all time.

I dont mind the occasional song here and there but when somebody turns on a xmas station and leave it there for quite some time I dont like it. Every year its the same thing over and over and over meh

over singing is bad.. u know.. like christina aguileras album. vocal gymnastics that hurts your ear.

Excellent post!!

As for the original question, the 12 Days of Christmas drives me nuts. The other one, which isn't a Christmas carol but gets treated like one for some reason, is My Favorite Things. I didn't like it in Sound of Music and I don't like it at Christmastime.

Favorite: Still, Still, Still. Best by Vienna Boys Choir
