Favorite guitar solo ever...?

The first one that comes to my mind that I always thought was really cool was the one in Metallica's "One". I like the one in "Enter Sandman" by them too.

Freebird, Unforgiven II, One, Fade to Black, November Rain, Erotomania, The Spirit Carries On, Sweet Child of Mine, No More Tears, Cliffs of Dover, Little Wing.... pick one 🙂

Steve Lukather had some pretty good solos, some pretty famous that you may not have known itw as him. A small sampling of his solos and such.

Any of Neal Schon's solos. They've got 'soul'. He's got a great sound that can make any song better.
Video of Neal playing at the Eric Clapton Crossroads Guitar Festival weekend before last.

Beat It - Eddie Van Halen 0wnz all 🙂
Happen to know who plays the rest of the guitar in that song besides the solo?

I happen to love everything by Joe Satriani, with my favorite being Summer Song from his Live in San Francisco CD. That song has been in my mp3 player for years, and I never tire of that riff.

Hm. I thought EVH played the entire song.

Does "Warmen - Beyond Abilities" count? I don't even know if it is a guitar solo, maybe its just plain awesomeness.

"A young man trying to impress, too much spice..."

Slash is the best soloist ever in my opinion.. November Rain was brain crushing and Sweet Child 'o Mine ranks up there with the best. Then he is always putting out ones like on Its So Easy, which would be considered amazing for any other guitarist.

Freebird solos have tons of attitude and build-ups that make them badass as well.

Hendrix and Clapton's version are pretty good too...

Exactly the one i thought of first.
second for me would have to be Alex Lifesons Solo in La Villa Strangiato
Good choice Broon. I you have never heard Lifesons solo in La Villa Strangiato I would recommend the live cut from Exit Stage Left.

that's definetely a killer one. but it doesn't compare to:

"starla" by the pumpkins. it's about 5 minutes of some seriously wicked psychedelic ROCK with one of the all-time best guitar tones evAR!.

if you're talking about crossroads the movie then i agree.. if you're not then i nominate the guitar duel in that movie

The slow part in the middle of Lizards is easily my favorite. As much as Trey can wail, the tone and phrasing of this bit gets me every damn time.
