486 dx-2 66

I'm trying to think of all the great games I played on that era of PCs.

Warcraft I and II, Doom I and II, Wolf3d, Prince of Persia, Wing Commander I and II, etc. Warcraft II was really impressive considering it was a DOS game that would work on a 33Mhz 486 😀 It got slow with many units, but it worked.

I liked my Pentium MMX 200mhz when I got it, but I didn't get into overclocking until way later, so I'd say second place goes to my AXP 2500+ Barton at 2.2ghz, first place is A64 Venice 3000+ at 2.75ghz. When I told people I almost got a 1ghz overclock no one believed me at the time. Great value chips

G0 stepped q6600.

Got it shortly after their price fell to the $300 mrsp area such a awesome chip i am on the lookout for one again to clock to 3ghzs perhaps to replace my e8200 for BF3.

How they will perform in the game versus a x4 who knows but if i could find one for $150 or less used it might be a good option again .

Second place goes to X2 3800+, ran it at 2.7 ghz for a couple years.

Q6600 G0 takes the cake though. Had it overclocked to 3.42ghz linpak stable.

I had an E4300 (1.8 ghz stock) that I overclocked to 3.4 ghz Prime stable on the stock cooler. That's an 89% overclock.

Another vote for the X2 3800+. Had it at 2.6 GHz but it can no longer achieve that speed. The computer now has been relegated to DC projects.

meh so many over the years... hard to pick a fav..

Of the ones I have owned?

In order:

1. I5 2500k
2. Celeron 300A (450 MHz with ease)
3. Athlon X2 5600+ (2.9GHz, 65W, Brisbane)

The 3rd one I didnt even bother OCing for a long time (finally took it up to 3.2 Ghz). I got it for $31 brand new when it was not only viable, but still damn powerful.)

That 300A was a beast though. Cant believe how many games of SC and various FPS's I ran on that thing.

Other than the dual Celeron 366s at 550, my favorite overclock was...

P3 650 Socket (100mhz bus) coppermine ran stable at 975mhz! (150mhz bus) I couldn't believe it was stable.

Oh yeah the celeron 366@550. Never owned that one, but I remember. Much jealousy.

And oh yeah, my old Athlon XP 1700+. That was a great chip too. I think I owned about 4or 5 AMD chips in a row because they were so cheap yet so powerful.
