Faulty video card?

I got the Dell studio 7100 Desktop Line with the 5670 vid. card recently and the thing starts to act up whenever I am playing a PC game.

I see the core clock goes from 400 MHZ to 775 MHZ when gaming starts but I notice time from time that it doesn't clock even when I start a 3D application.

I notice this is called powerplay and is there anyway to disable it?

You can probably set it to "high performance" or "power saving" modes and enable those at startup until you change it again.
