I just bought a seagate 200gb, model number ST3200822AS.
I have heard that they are very quiet, and my last seagate I could not hear at all.
This 1 is very loud, and im thinking maybe it is a bit faulty. I used smartfan to do a S.M.A.R.T. test on the drive and under fitness, it says that it is just over half way, which I dont know if its correct or not. Do you think I should take it back? The results from my test can be found here

If anyone out their could please help me out, it would be great. It just noise is a big factor in my systems and im sure this is noisier than it should be

Thanks

Is it loud as in the reading/writing sound or is it doing something like lots of clicking? While I only have an 80GB and 120GB, I do know that when they aren't in use they will start to seek for awhile and then stop. Some kind of diag check or something that Seagate put in. Perhaps that is what your talking about?

Really, just whenever i use it, like access my music collection. It is really the normal sound that I have to expect from hard drives, which is the clicking sound it makes when accessing files, yet I previous had a seagate barracuda and you could barely hear it click when accessing files, this one seems to make a very loud click and I was expecting it to be very quiet considering that they are considered the quietest on the market with samsung amongst them.

Thanks for your reply
