I have not been with my PC for a while since was too busy building my homemade racing wheel. Now i got my wheel flying, just my luck my monitor failed. Anyone knows any good sites with tips on monitor troubleshooting. I don't want any of those, "don't open the monitor casing, send it to the repairman". I already opened the monitor casing and almost found the culprit when another problem hit me. Initially the monitor display disappear and reappear when i give it a slap on the side. Now there is not even input power. Yup i burned the fuse and one of em big capacitor. i'll let everyone knows how i fixed it (if i ever fix it). Any good sites for help

There really is no internet solution for the layman, and very, very
little for the techs that do this on a daily basis.

Repairing monitors doesn't work that way.
No magical list of parts that you need to replace, and it will work.
It requires proper tools, and a lot of experience with the brand you
are working on. How do you know you have a bad cap? Do you even know
what a cap is? Is it an electrolytic cap? Can you read the specs off
it? If not, then you also would need to contact the manufacturer, or
get a service manual at about $30 to $80, just so you can get the correct
part. Sounds like you initially had a simple bad connection. This in
turn had developed into failed components. Most failed components do
not appear bad just by looking at them, and they must be measured or
tested to see if they are good. Fuses normally blow when something shorts
out. Did you check for shorted components?

Yes, there are some sites out there that list specific monitors, and
specific problems and cures, but they charge you for these symcures.
Also, they are for techs, and don't show basic stuff like bad connections.

I stopped repairing monitors, because parts were getting harder to get from manufacturers, and new monitors were getting so cheap. If I recall correctly, the common failure on the CTX, bad connections on daughterboard, leading to Mosfet failure, then other parts shorting, my cost on parts alone was about $35.00, and you better hope you get it right the first time, otherwise it's another $35 in parts to redo it again..

It's hard to beat getting a brand new 17" monitor from Staples for only $60 delivered.

TV's and PC's are what I do, with RCA TV's being my major source of income..
