Faulty CPU Temp Diode? Any way to test this?

Hey all,

Ever since switching my motherboard, I've been experiencing incredibly high CPU temps on my Athlon II X3. Im talkin' like 87C@load. However, everything seems completely stable. The only time I ever noticed a problem is when my CPU hit 90 and the mobo shutdown because that was the thermal threshold.

Anyways, I suspect a faulty diode. I just installed the stock HS with a nice, shiny new application of Arctic Alumina. I was previously using a thermal pad and getting the same readings. The only reason I even bring this up is because, when using CPUID HWMonitor, I notice that the motherboard reported temp and the CPU reported temp are both close, but slightly different. (High 80's) Is it possible they're both defective? Is there something I could run that would error out if my CPU was at too high of a temp?

Thanks,
Dave

Is the heatsink hot to the touch? Have you double checked to make sure the MB is supplying the right voltage? When you apply a fresh coat of TIM does the old layer look like its been squished thin, or is it still pretty thick towards the center? Does your MB have a bios update listed to fix temp readings?
