faulty 8800GTS?

Hi, i just got the EVGA 8800GTS 320MB superclocked from FS, so returns are not an issue, but after i installed the GTS i now get some garbled up test during the boot up sequence. faulty card and/or drivers?

btw, does driver cleaner pro work on Vista x64? if not, is there anything else i should use besides the CP?

Did you uninstall the old drivers before you installed the new card? Uninstall your old drivers through the control panel. Then try regedit and get rid of anything pertaining to your old drivers under "current user -> software" and "local machine -> software" Clear out your temp and prefetch folders in your Windows folder. Restart and install new drivers.

Use Guru3D's Driver Sweeper in safe mode after uninstalling your drivers to clean out any remnants. If the problem persists you likely got a bad card.

Sounds like what you had previously was an integrated graphic chip set mobo.
If so, you need to disable (in bios) the integrated one first and its driver in window, prior to installing the new card and its driver.

hm...seems to only be messed up on POST; it works fine in games and windows. I also have been able to OC it a bit (650/1100 from 576/850). anyways, i still have 30 days to exchange/return it to Futureshop, so ill probably do that later this week. i just find it odd that it would mess up during the boot sequence when there is, in theory, less stress on the video card than compared to windows. oh well.

ya, the requirements state 400W with twenty something on the 12V rail; i have a 500W with 32A on the 12V. my entire system at load draws a bit less than 300W so PSU is not the issue. any other ideas or should i just try an exchange?

It seems like the card has trouble with the VGA mode, since it works fine when the driver "kicks in" in Windows.

I would exchange it - you need VGA to do the boot in Safe Mode and to work in BIOS.

actually i CAN get into the BIOS, however, all the frames are being drawn very slowly; similar to when a new card is installed and is being used in windows before the drivers are installed. what is odd is that i when i tried to use my 1950PRO (after the removal of the ATI drivers and installation of the nVidia drivers) the boot up sequence remains smooth and frames are being drawn properly. but ya, looks like ill probably have to exchange the card later this week; i hope the next card will also be able to OC as high as this one.
