everpure is what we have. Our city chlorinates the water supply and you can smell it sometimes. Can't be good for you. The everpure eliminates it.

I bought a few of these:
https://www.filtersfast.com/Pentek-158116-Filter-Housing.asp

The intake is 3/4" female NIB. You can get brass fittings at your local hardware store + teflon tape to make the connections water tight. Get 2 of them and throw them under your sink with a 5-9 micron filter on (whatever you want). These 10" filters are VERY cheap compared to anything you'd buy specifically for your cause and they work just as good:

Yeah, I paid over $100 for the last replacement, 1/2 micron filter. No idea if the 1/2 is over kill or not. Probably is because my bro is a bit anal. But it's good for 300 gallons so I figure 1 a year isn't killing me.

You could probably replace yours with one of the penteks and write me a check for the difference.

1/2 micron @ $100 is overkill in my opinion unless you have some serious gains from it. If you're worried about bacteria, etc....yeah. Otherwise, I'd just rely on your water supply to have enough chlorine in it to take care of any threats. If you have a hot water tank, you could worry about Legionnaires' Disease, but you can make a few system changes to make that less likely.

5 micron is about as small as I'd go....they typically will do 8,000 gallons. You really just have to see if you're dealing with hard water or what you're trying to filter out. The more filtration you do, the more frequently you have to replace your filter...and the less water pressure you'll have at your faucet.

I filter all of my incoming cold water to my water heater using a 10 micron filter. My cold water under my sink is filtered with a 5 micron paper filter.

I've also used these whole house filters to infuse homebrew beer and quickly filter yeast out of kegs for a more stable product without having to use additives.

And we're on to the really important stuff. Beer, not just for breakfast.

Yeah, my bro is a bit over the top but if he's that way while doing my plumbing I'll deal with it. When we added the bath upstairs, the wife suggested that her Dad and I do it to save some $$. Asked her if she really wanted shit dripping through the ceiling....She called my bro.:p

I'm about to start on 2 new bathrooms shortly. I keep getting delays from my tub delivery....then I can lay out my drains and start drilling holes for the vents. I'm going to tackle it myself since they'll either drip in the crawlspace or on my wife's 4Runner in the garage! :D

I was going to pay someone, but decided it wasn't worth the money for what those suckers charge people for their time. I pulled the permits and am ready to go once I get the fixtures roughed in.

on my wife's 4Runner
Smile now. Run if it happens.

I got the family rate on the upstairs bath. I paid regular price on the kitchen other than the parts wholesale. Ouch but it's right.

Sorry, OP, for the derail.

We've got a reverse osmosis system with a spout for it at the kitchen sink. It also serves water to the refrigerator. The storage tank is a little bulky to be putting under the sink especially if you have a disposer but we have a basement and I have it mounted up high on the basement wall under the sink area. The filters are mounted there too.

I've told my wife numerous times that she's better off (IMO mind you) to drink tap water that has some minerals in it but she's kind of a fanatic about the water she drinks.
