"Steven (the kid who's father is suing) led the league this season with 45 goals and 42 assists in 27 games. The league MVP, Lucas Martin who plays for Moncton, had 21 goals and 39 assists, fourth in the league."

I wouldn't have sued, but I sure as hell would want to know why a lessor player got the award.

It is a repost, albeit the original had a lousy name, so it's an easy mistake to make.

Link

In that thread someone made an argument for the other player.

I'm thinkin there's more to this...

The coaches in that league may vote as MVP a player who adds the most to his team...not just in the stats.
Maybe he scored more clutch goals to win games.
Maybe he supported his teammates more...which IMHO should be more important that raw stats
Maybe the first kid is an arrogant rat bastard who belittles his teammates and other players...who knows.

It's tough to defend "touchy-feely" criteria in the face of such a difference in stats...but stats don't always tell the whole story.

Look at the ratio of goals to assists. The player who won did a better job of spreading the puck around and helping hie teammates score, the winner wasn't as selfish with the puck. Also, maybe the winner of the award also had several clutch defensive plays while the leading scorer couldn't do jack squat on defence? (Just tossing around possabilities.) MVP takes into account a lot more than just gross scoring.

Yeah MVP awards don't always go to the best player overall. I don't know if this factors into it at that level, but in the Pros if your team doesn't make the playoffs and the other guys' team does, then a lot of the time they give the MVP to the guy on the team that does.
