I have to vehemently dispute this, it's just not the case. I've lived in a black community for the first 25 years of my life (currently live in a mixed community now) and I've had plenty of experience and first hand observations of what exists there. It is a myth that most young black men are thugs and prone to violence, while it is true that there are some who do choose that way of life but it's inaccurate to state that the majority of black youth are criminals. The problem is that people who crimit crimes and stay in trouble draw more attention. Who are you most likely to remember in school? The unassuming kid with a B average or the jerk who's constantly disrupting the class? The same is true in the black community, the people who work everyday and take care of their families don't stand out like the thugs who prefer to spend their time on the corner dealing in crime. Then don't even get me started on the stupid music industry and how so called black life is reflected in rap music.
Sure there are a lots of them in prison:

"About 10.4% of the entire African-American male population in the United States aged 25 to 29 was incarcerated, by far the largest racial or ethnic group....Today, more African-American men are in jail than in college. In 2000 there were 791,600 black men in prison and 603,032 enrolled in college. In 1980, there were 143,000 black men in prison and 463,700 enrolled in college"

"At midyear 2007 there were 4,618 black male sentenced prisoners per 100,000 black males in the United States, compared to 1,747 Hispanic male sentenced prisoners per 100,000 Hispanic males and 773 white male sentenced prisoners per 100,000 white males."

"The number of black men in jail or prison has grown fivefold in the past 20 years, to the point where more black men are behind bars than are enrolled in colleges or universities, according to a study released yesterday."
I can see it now....someone will say ..."but ..but ..but...it is not their fault...it is the system..racist...the man...blah..blah ..blah....they didn't do anything to deserve it..we need to spend more money...more...much more resources to help them overcome"
