There has been an ongoing film production of G.I. Joe 2 going on for several months here.
Yesterday a worker was killed when the Scissor Lift he was using toppled over.

NASA will definately launch an investigation to why this happened on their campus.

There may never again be this type of activity permited to take place there again, and it may prevent
any similar filming at other NASA properties.

what is a "high powered" scissor lift? i would have thought windy conditions like that kid from notre dame a year or two ago, but sounds like they were in a warehouse.

actually to even be on a set you get plenty of general training and then training on top of that based on your specialized job.

You go there and you basically then carry a passport with all your different safety pass classes in it.

I'm not saying it wasn't the workers fault but when you consider the amount of crazy shit hollywood does its really a testament to the rigorous safety classes there are not more casualties.

Perhaps. I've used scissor lifts before and you kind of have to be really stupid to get hurt on one.

what if this was your film set?

people always dying on scissor lifts ;| not really as dangerous in my personal experience as you would think. was he a sparky? they always seem to be electrocuting themselves in those things.

man lifts are way more fun to try and kill yourself in anyways. extend out til you're 50ft in the air and do donuts at like 15-20 mph.

why would a accident have NASA stop using the properties?

NASA is the property, areas were under lease to the movie industry to use the facilities to make the movie set.
It is supposed to appear as a foreign countries secret military complex.

The incident occurred on the property of the NASA Michoud facility, which is federal property,
according to the New Orleans Police Department.
The NOPD referred inquiries to the federal agency.
Calls to NASA were not immediately returned Wednesday.

The local office of the Occupational Safety Health Administration was not open Wednesday.
Meanwhile, the IATSE -- the union of professional stagehands, motion picture technicians and allied crafts
-- could not be reached for comment.

How does a scissor lift topple? I have an articulating boom which puts the mass "out there" but scissor is straight up and down.

Here's what I use boom for if it falls into swimming pool it's 14000 lbs not coming out. I'm pretty terrified so I'm the only one allowed to use it.
