I've recently encountered fatal system error 0x0000008E when attempting to play bf1942/2 online only and I have no idea what is causing the problem. All drivers are current; seemed to worsen after PunkBuster updated. My system specs are listed below. Any suggestions/ideas on what is causing this problem and a way to possibly fix it?

You need to post the FULL error from the EVENT log as
the possiblities are numerous with that particular error.

Error code 1000008e, parameter1 c0000005, parameter2 f792e01b, parameter3 edb655dc, parameter4 00000000.

That's all it says.

No,
Not running Norton AV. I've noticed that I get a
"DCOM got error "The service database is locked. " attempting to start the service netman with arguments "" in order to run the server:
{BA126AE5-2166-11D1-B1D0-00805FC1270E}"
in the event log right before I get the BSOD.

Also, when trying to boot in Safe Mode, I get this BSOD:

IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
STOP: 0x000000A (0xf7D51354, 0x000000FF, 0x00000001, 0x804E2E41)

and the DCOM error described above as well as this:
DCOM got error "The service database is locked. " attempting to start the service winmgmt with arguments "" in order to run the server:
{8BC3F05E-D86B-11D0-A075-00C04FB68820}

appear in the event log.

I don't know what happened; everything was working perfectly until a few days ago and I haven't changed anything in the BIOS or updated drivers.

I got it to work; just decided to try WinXP 64bit beta. Haven't had the problem since. I think the copy of WinXP I got was tweaked. I had trouble installing it; the 64bit version was a breeze. I'll likely pay for the full WinXP64 since this has worked so well. Thanks for the help though :).
