Fatal Error in Prime95.

I'm not entirely sure what is widely agreed upon as the best idle/load temps for a Q6600 at 3GHz.

Which program provides the best temp readings? Is there any trusted app used by the OC community?

Edit: Instead of making a new thread, I'll just kinda change the topic of this one.

I was changing some settings earlier, and I was trying for 3.5GHz. PC wouldn't even boot to Windows, so I started smaller. 3.24GHz. In Prime 95, I got this error:

This was In Place Large FFT's. It didn't crash, but I got this error:

Then, after some browsing and what not, rebooted on me. There's no stress.txt, so, I can't get anymore info than that. Does anybody know what causes this?
 
temps are a factor of OC, vcore, and HSF used. The bottom line ? if its under 70c full load, you are fine. Under 60 is preferred.
 
I don't remember off hand. 1.2 or 1.3 maybe. I'm relatively new to OCing, so, I'm not too sure how much higher I'd want to go.
 
Yeah, everything looks great. As for those voltages at load, something I would like to have with my Q6600. Still, would like to know what you set the voltage at in bios. Or did you leave it set to auto. Usually auto sucks but if your stable @ 3.0 fully loaded with that low of voltages and temps, I wouldn't complain a damn bit. 🙂


BTW, how long have you run Prime for testing? You quoted 15 mins...........Have you run it like 8 hours or so?
 
It was only for 15 minutes or so. Never had it running much longer than that. I will check out my BIOS settings right now. I think they're kind of high. Perhaps in the 1.3 neighborhood.
 
You should run prime for at least 8 hours to see if your settings are stable. 15 mins will not give you any good indications of stibility. just an FYI. 🙂
 
Yeah. I know.

I just checked my BIOS, I was in the 1.36~ range, so I dropped it to a flat 1.3. Seems to be ok. I've read lots of accounts of Q6600's being taken to 3GHz on just stock voltage, so. I could probably go lower.
