I have a single 60 gig HD partitioned as follows:

1. 2GB FAT32 (primary)
2. 7GB NTFS (Pirmary)
3. 51GB EXTENDED (primary)
-> 4. 51GB FAT32

When I try to install WinXP #1 gets assigned C:\, #4 gets assigned D:\ and #2 gets assigned E:\

I would like to have #2 = D:\

Is this possible, or am I just out of luck?

Use fdsik to create your partitions first.

Create your primary 2gb partition, then create your extended dos partition of 58gb, and partition the entended dos partition into 2 logical drives.

Doing this should create the drives in alphabetical order.

Btw, as far as I was aware you can only have one primary partition?! :confused:

@DannyBoy - you can have 4 primary partitions, or 3 primaries + 1 extended

@Stefan - what partition are you installing to, and what other OS's (if any) are involved?

Control Panel > Administrative tools > Computer Management > disk Management.
I think you can change drive letter assignments from somewhere over there.

right click the drive when u do as above and click 'Change drive letter and paths'.
Then change as you want.

I got it all setup the way I want now. I just made the NTFS partition a logical partition and everything worked out.

Thanks
