Fat Tire Beer

I live in Chicago and they started selling fat tire here a couple of weeks ago. I guess it's the first time east of the mississippi.

A-Why would a beer not be sold everywhere?
B-what's the big deal.

Discuss.

A-Because I believe Fat Tire is a microbrew from Belgium?
B-Because alot of people like microbrews better.

EDIT-Then again, I'm not the forum beer expert. ZIM! 🙂

a - it's a micro brew, they didn't have the distribution before
b - it tastes pretty good. if it wasn't so expensive and i could buy it in indianapolis, i would.

A) they are not likely brewing millions of bottles per day like budwieser. Simply put there is not enough to have distribution EVERYWHERE
B) its good beer.

No its a microbrew from the NEW BELGIUM brewery here in Ft Collins colorado.

And its not a big deal. In fact, when I've had it outside of colorado, it tastes like absolute trash. However if you get it here in Colorado on tap, its awesome. It doesn't taste as good elsewhere because of preservatives I think, or maybe lack of I'm not really sure. I just know from friends in Texas on a trip there last year that it just doesn't taste the same.

Its a very good beer on tap though

Belgium? It's not Belgian. 😛 It's brewed in Colorado, and is a microbrew, so it has limited distribution.

What's the big deal? It's damn good.

I liked it better from bottles in Denver than from tap in Omaha.

I love microbrew! 🙂

Fat Tire is awesome beer. It has a nutty flavor for an ale. It goes great with fried catfish or hot wings or just some good cheese fries. Yum.

When I want to let myself go and splurge, I will go for a Fat Tire.

Usually it is Guiness though. Or a hometown microbrew.

**EDIT**
Bass is always good.

Or Dos Equis/Corona.

Yea its bad on tap other places too. I didn't explain myself very well.

I'm not sure if its just because I've been spoiled having visited the brewery on more then one occasion and had beer on tap that was finished brewing the day previous, or what. But when I've had it outside of Colorado, on tap or in the bottle, it just wasn't any good.

Jesus how can even mention Corona in the same paragraph as Fat Tire, Guiness and Bass?? Unless its "Fat tire and guiness being the best in there respective beer classes, and corona being the worst."

Blehhhhh

I agree. They don't compare to the others.

But since I live in Texas, cheap beer is a common thing. If I don't want to splurge, I will go for cerveza.

I've had Fat Tire in Dallas and Houston and it was good on tap there.

Never been to CO so I can say if it's better or worse closer to the source.

i found this stuff in a grocery store in California this summer (i'm from Wisconsin) and my stepmom was like "its the new thing" hmmm...never tried it though

It's a pretty good beer. It's superior to what most of us drink the US, but there are better examples of the style and of microbrewing in general.

Try some of their Belgian style brews. They have a tripel, a Saison, an Abbey Ale, etc. Fantastic brews. It's great to see so many breweries producing something worthy of the Belgian style. Allagash, Ommegang, New Belgium, Victory Golden Monkey, and others I can't think of make excellent examples.

I have a Watou Tripel for this evening...
