I have cleaned the lense that didnt fix it. Now if I turn the cog and move the lense closest to the cd it reads the ps1 games fine but then will not read ps2 games at all. any ideas?

Either the motor that moves that cog is going bad, or the voltage on the lasers needs readjusted.

Both of which are more of a hassle to fix than anything and even if you fix it the problem will be back in a couple months or so.

You're better off trading it in for a slim PS2 or something.

I got the slim Ps2 recently and I love it.
So far it plays all the Ps1 games I care to play on it.
The only downside is the old mod chips dont work. (Well, most of them anyway.)

Don?t think that a slim PS2 will be the answer to your problems. I have a slim PS2, purchased in early 2005, that went bad over the summer. I can only play PS1 games and not PS2 games or DVDs at all. I tinkered around with the voltage screws (one for CDs and one for DVDs) underneath the laser assembly (because I didn?t want to pay Sony $40 for a problem they never fixed), and I ended up breaking the DVD laser (oh well). I plan on just buying an entirely new laser assembly.
