FAT 32 or NTFS??

I just installed Win2K on a FAT 32 drive. But most of my friends tell me NTFS is much better and tell me to switch to NTFS. Which one is better and should I switch?? And if I want to switch, which porgram I can use to switch the FAT 32 to NTFS??
 
You really should install on NTFS.
If you just installed it, I suggest you redo it. Have the Windows installer format the drive NTFS.
 
from what i have heard, ntfs is much better for security, recovery, and efficiency. the only reason i installed win2000 with fat32 was so if necessary the drive could be read by one of my win98 machines. that's the only reason i could think of to keep fat32...it might not be a good reason but that's what kept me with fat32
 
NTFS is faster and more efficient, as well as has better security. FAT32 is more compatible (Win95, 98, and ME can read it).

If you want to convert, just go to the dos prompt and type:

drive_letter: /fs:ntfs
 
another vote for NTFS, if you dual boot, keep files you need to use in both OS`s on a shared FAT32 partition 🙂
 
Just so long as you are not dual booting the system with the NTFS drive/partition you can go entirely NTFS. You can still create network drive mapping and access that mapped drive from another system (on a LAN) that does not use NTFS.
 
I MYSELF use Fat32. I dont see any since of going to NTFS on a home computer. NTFS is best for Secure networking computers. I do know in Windows Terminal Server you can go to a DOS prompt and type:

Convert C: /FS:NTFS
This will covert Fat32 to NTFS

C: <---Being the drive letter your wanting to change OS.
Opps just seen Apex posted this already. I just learned and done this last week and worked great. Once you go NTFS you cant go back to FAT32!
 

Keep in mind that performance is being reported as SUCK after doing the conversion....

Compared to doing a fresh install and going NTFS from the start.

Just thought you should know.

Is really a hard choice to choose between FAT 32 or NTFS. There is also one reason I ask you guys for opinion, which is my Norton's Speed disk seem not to like my FAT 32 drive. It won't defag my Win2K system files, and the defag program in the Win2K just make things even slower. Seem like I am stuck. Is Norton Speed disk really don't like a Win2K system on a FAT 32 drive??
 
I'm in the same boat as ledzepp98.
I want to share/read/syncronize w9x/me computers with the ntfs system.

All Partition Magic does to convert from FAT32 to NTFS is to issue the following command which you can do yourself!

convert X: /FS:NTFS with X being the drive you want to convert.
