Now I know that Adkins is not healthy, but would it be safe to use for a few weeks, just to lose a few lbs of fat? I already run too much, lift weights to often, and cut all the junk out of my diet. And I have lost some weight. But I am headed to mexico in a few weeks, and I would like to trim down and look a little better before I go.
I am not talking 20lbs, just like 5 or so. May'be more if I can. But I would like it to be fat.
I could up the cardio, and drop the calories a bit more, but I think I am taking in too little as it is.
May'be up the weights?

I have heard drinking a alot of water can help you lose some weight, but just water weight.
As it is, all I drink it diet coke, water, skim milk occasionally, and every so often, black coffee no sugar no cream.

Any ideas?

my friend went on atkins 2 weeks before his wedding.

he lost 15 lbs. although, he lost some muscle as well.

he didn't workout at all during that time.

EDIT: keep in mind we're talking seriously strict atkins. he told me it was very difficult to keep it up, not because he was tempted to eat carbs but because they had to cook ALL their meals and it's hard to completely cook without anything containing some kind of sugar.

height? body weight?

amount of calories consumed?

macronutrient breakdown?

precise amount of physical activity?

Well I could balance that by hitting the weights, right?

without reading your post:
exercise almost every day for at least 30 mins
eat less calories
eat more often in smaller servings
do not eat right before bed
increase your vegetable and fruit intake

keep well hydrated and sleep your standard amounts to maintain a high level of energy

atkins is not a permanent solution and dropping 15lbs in 2 weeks is a too much in such a small time frame. Do some research on the subject and it's clear that it's more of a fad than a healthy way to treat your body

i believe so, but i have another friend who is heavy into working out and when she tried atkins she gave up after about a week because she had no energy to workout. of course, this first week is the "induction" phase i think and supposedly your energy returns after your body learns to process proteins for energy or something.

here is a GREAT diet that will get you losing that fat in 2 weeks ... seriously, i am about to start this after this weekend because I'm going to Aruba the 16th.

Monday - Friday eat no more than 40g of carbs. However, eat A LOT of fat and protein ... i mean like overdose yourself on fat and protein, but just don't go over 40g of carbs. If you continue to workout over these days, don't do your heaviest loads later in the week, do them in the earlier parts of the week because you will have carbs from the weekend ... which brings me to the next part ...

Saturday - Eat no more than 100g of carbs and don't eat as much fat, but eat a lot of protein still!

Sunday - Overdose on carbs. Eat as much as you want. Eat pasta definitely, just get a lot of carbs in you.

Then repeat this cycle the next week.

I did this last summer and dude, w/in like 3 days I could see results. Your abs will just feel tighter in general and show more. However I did this for about a month and it made me lose some muscle as well which pissed me off. You definitely won't have as much energy at the gym if you do this though, so make sure to load up on carbs 1 time at the end of hte week.

just don't do this for long, if you do it for 2 weeks, i guarantee you will see some nice results. and trust me, it is like 10x harder to do this than it sounds because so much stuff has carbs in it.

EDIT: i took some before and after pics of the first week and differences were very noticeable. however i don't think i have them here at work, and not sure if i even have them at home or not still :(. it was last summer.

5'7" around 135-137lbs by my bathroom scale.

I eat 6 meals a day.

Usually 1-cup of whole grain cereal in the morning, with half a cup of skim milk
mid morning snack: half a protien bar
Lunch: chicken breast with salad no dressing
Mid afternoon snack: either other half of the protien bar or some fruit
Dinner: Chicken something
Snack: some almonds or a piece of fruit
Around 1500 or less calories

I run around 30 minutes 5-6 days a week and I will usually powerwalk about 30-45 minutes after that

I lift for about 45 minutes per day every other day - full body - Low weight high reps

Don't need a scheme really. Just some tips. I can always up the cardio and lower the calories some more. That is good for fat loss, but bad for muscle.

What the hell do you need to lose weight for if you're doing that amount of exercise? You sound like you are in great shape!

Atkins is not a 'quick' diet its a lifestyle change. If you go off it in two weeks, you'll gain it all right back.

did you not read my suggestion? i'm telling you ... it will work, i wish i had the pics here to show you how you could see results after only a few days ...

EDIT: and i'm fat by no means, im 5'11, 180lbs, and just have that little fatty on my belly that only shows my 6pack w/some little ripples and not my 8pack like i really have under there :D. it's almost there though since i've been eating right/doing cardio since my ankle has healed.

its Atkins, not Adkins. cut the milk out. and for these few weeks eat nothing but

breakfast: whole grain oats (old fashioned oat meal (NOT INSTANT) and 6 egg whites hard boiled with 1 yolk

tuna/chicken/turkey/lean white meat

tuna/chicken/turkey/lean white meat

lift/cardio

shake+high carb (white rice, this is imperative.)

tuna/chicken/turkey/lean white meat

if its for a few weeks just do that and drink a ton of water it gets disgusting, but u will look good.

Because I still have quite a bit of fat around my waist. I am just a bit obsessive about it. Most guys wouldn't care, but I find it disgusting.

Not really. When I was on it I lost a lot of weight, but I lost a lot of muscle. I worked out very hard the entire time, and losing the muscle was unavoidable.

try to calculate amount of calories you consume

it seems to me that you don't eat nearly enough

since you're trying ot lose weight, try to eat 2000 calories a day and add 200-300 to that because of current physical activity

if you were trying to gain muscle I'd suggest eating ~2500 a day and lifting heavy weight low rep

Sounds like your diet and exercize is fine. You're too light as it is. I'm only 3 inches taller and I weigh 50 lbs more than you. And even then, people think I'm skinny.

You should be trying to gain weight, IMO.

I agree. Muscle burns fat.

Would switching my cardio to morning time, in a fasted state, burn more fat? I like to run after eating, in the afternoon, but I am probably just burning carbs, not fat.
