*Update. So i used Nvidia edition for a while and see for myself. Looked very nice, i loved all the new icons and shells and even Media Center had a new look which i tried to mod once before myself and failed.
As far as the posts saying its pirated, i can assure anyone here that after install i had only 30 days trial, there is no key or activation method and site tells you to buy your own key. Modding is not against the EULA, otherwise i doubt MS would have made WAIK (
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc709665(WS.10).aspx) but doesnt matter, its a moot point regardless. norton 360 came up clean as well, nothing unordinary tried to change registry, files or access the net as i used several monitoring tools.
navigation and startup was faster in a few areas. i used Tweak 7 to measure the boot times and it increased from 18 to 13 seconds on its best time but i also cut out most of the services from BV's site as well. Games benched were not any faster though and apps did not load any faster. Explorer measured .6 seconds faster to load on average out of 20 tests. One game did load faster but i assume a fluke.
File transfer averaged the same +/- milliseconds for average out of 10 tests. Starmenu was about 200milliseconds faster, menus and search i forgot to bench. Synth tests like PC vantage, winbench was higher, but i don't put much faith in those anyway, i use them for fun more than anything.
Came with a few included freeware silent install apps but i removed them prior to install by removing the "software" folder but included klite codec pack..etc
Included WU updates, i assume some added driver support but not sure
Overall its tweaks is nothing more than a set of registry entries as expected but they are pretty good registry tweaks with a huge list such as allowing explorer to show shortcuts to other places in the drives (computer) entry, adds some handy stuff to right click menu, a large variety speed tweaks...etc. So i copied the .reg file and kept it :awe:
it also came with their custom NV tool, which i also extracted :awe:. It changes some Nvidia registries to get better visuals. Screenshot before/after reveals subtle differences, i cracked open the .exe to see and it was just basically a registry file for Nvidia's stuff.
boy, you like poking the hornets nest. don't you? asking that here will get you some nasty responses ()

i have used the ATI edition, briefly. IMHO they are not faster.
In a few areas it is, but mostly just from pure conveniences of navigation which speed up how you use it, like having "godmode" or Shutdown, change wallpaper..etc from the right click menu, stuff like that. Overall the potential speed boosts i later realized is not the point, its basically just so you can do a fresh install and save loads of time in customizations and from messing with icon and skin applications, WU updates..etc.
As far as hornets nest, well the reality is that modded OS's exist, no ones opinion will change reality nor did my specific question of "speed" improvements have anything to do with either or should insinuate i mean to do malicious activity, it was just a question and thank you for your experienced answer. The speed improvements i found were mostly subtle but the convenient shortcuts here and there does increase user productivity i believe.
i played a bit of RT7lite, its ok, saves some time after a new install but i found the .reg i nabbed from NV edition saved me more time, hopefully they will make another with additional conveniences.
