Are there any good, silent but fast stock video cards out there that are inexpensive?

Inexpensive = <$100

The best I can find thus far with DVI is Radeon 9200, but surely we can do better than that.

The fastest *stock* silent card is a RADEON 9600 (not the 9600SE, just the regular 9600), retailing around $90-100. Sapphire also sells a line of "Ultimate" 9600/9700/9800-class cards that are shipped preinstalled with one of Zalman's silent heatpipe coolers, but these are more in the $150-250 range. You can also buy these coolers aftermarket for about $30 and install them yourself on just about any card (although doing so voids the warranty on the card).

I have been wondering if video cards such as a 9800 with a fan actually produce any noise in a quiet case...

There's plenty of aftermarket-modded used cards in FS/T - you could probably score something like a 9500Pro for a little more than that.

*cough cough*

Plenty of noise, check out SilentPCReview, stock vid card fans are usually small and spin fast so are whiny like northbridge fans and smaller CPU fans.
