Fastest recommended card for a FX55

I have a FX55 rig and 2gb of ram. I'm running Vista32 and am waiting for Bloomfield to upgrade. I like a lot of the games out now, and want to buy another video card to hold me over.

I purchased a 8800GTX when it was first released, and used it till about a month ago, when I sold it for $510.
I had paid $650 and gotten a copy of Dark Messiah with it (which I kept because of the fact that it was registered on Steam).

So not a bad deal. And my games were GREAT with the FX55 + 8800GTX combo.

But I'm afraid the games I was playing with the 8800GTX werent the same as all this newfangled Quakewars, UT3, Clive Barkers Jericho, Crysis stuff.. and it wouldn't work quite so well with my FX55 today as it did on launch with HL2 and Medieval 2 Total War..

I'm just curious, what is your recommendation? Considering my current rig and Bloomfield plans.

I'm currently playing QuakeWars (incessently), Jericho and Bioshock. Occasional Oblivion.

Didn't really enjoy UT3, COD4 or Crysis (wasn't a fan of the original FC).
Using a 8600GTS and its ok but slows down in big firefights (even in HL2).
Gaming at 1680x1050 in everything with options either at mid on this card. Previously played every game on highest settings with AA/AF.

8800GT time? Or too bottlenecked in the new games and stick with my backup card (8600GTS)?

I would go with the 8800GT. At higher-resolutions, you are gonna be more GPU dependant than CPU. Your FX55 should be good for now.

I have the same proc, but with a 1800xt. I think i'm gonna wait and see how the ati performs in a couple of weeks by then the gouging on gt's should be over.
