Every time I look up SSD drives on Newegg and other sites I clearly see the read/write speeds of the SSD drives... However on internal SATA drives, or even older IDE, I've never noticed the read/write speeds of the drive...

So the question is...

What is the fastest read/write speed of a 1TB SATA 6Gb internal HDD?

I know the spin speeds are 5400, 5900, 7200, 10000 etc... but the read/write?

I want to really understand the speed differences between HDD and SSD units :)

Thanks!

the fastest HDDs sequential read/write speeds will fall around 100-140 MBs for large file sizes. Random 4k reads/writes are going to be around 1 MBs.

Regular HDDs will be used for some time for raw storage. Just like capacities have been steadily increasing so have their speeds.

yeah.. many get confused by the theoretical bus/channel speed of sata3 when it comes to capability of sata3 HDD. They should be using different terminology for HDD's, IMO. More like "sata3 compatible".. NOT "sata3 capable".
