Actually.. I've got a 286 system rightcheer, and I'm selling it for the low low price of $199, and that's a hundred dollars off the system that I'm selling for $100 more than usual. :)

In all seriousness, there's not much you can get for $200.

Duron 850MHz - $40
Thermaltake Volcano II - $5.50
ECS K7S5A - $52
Kingston 256MB PC2100 - $72

Total - $169.5 + shipping

What exactly do you need? If you are going to need a monitor your going to be spending over 500 dollars. If your not using any older components you will be spending over 500 dollars. Post some more info, maybe some components you will be using over if any.

Not to be an ass or anything, but why don't you give us some idea for what this computer is going to be used for? We'll work around that, but meanwhile, I don't think you're going to pick up 3 systems worth $300, $400, $500, correspondingly.

<< i know what i can put together and make it awesome, i understand that i can check this out myself, im not lazy >>

Um, yeah.

<< but i want to know what the BEST stuff is right now...i read reviews and all, but im just not finding my answers anywhere >>

Best stuff.....

Intel setup
(prices from Newegg)
$136 P4 1.6A (best for o/c)
or
$522 P4 2.2A (best for non-o/c)
$158 Asus P4T-E i850 (I don't know what is good for Intel mobo so I chose ASUS 'cause they are usually good....change if you want)
$95 Corsair 256 MB PC800 \_____ ( 512 MB RAM)
$95 Corsair 256 MB PC800 /

$870 for P4 2.2A
$484 for P4 1.6A

AMD setup.

$$124 Athlon 1700+ (potential for o/c, 1600+ will do too.)
or
$315 Athlon XP 2100+ (for non-o/c)
$91 EPoX 8KHA+ ( I have this mobo. there are others that people like, Shuttle if I remember right)
$172 256MBx 2 sticks of Crucial DDR.

$387 for XP 1700+
$578 for XP 2100+

IMHO This is the best stuff out there, some may say a different AMD mobo. over EPoX, some WILL say different Intel mobo. ( I haven't kept up with what Intel mobo is good.....)

EDIT: If anyone can tell me what is the best Intel mobo for P4 using i850 and the i845 w/DDR is good out there so I can know. TIA

Why should we do your leg work??????

if you are going to say something like that, then dont post at all

and try reading all the posts, if you noticed i said I KNOW HOW TO BUILD A COMPUTER and i KNOW WHERE TO LOOK

you dont have to keep telling me to look around and point me to newegg! I KNOW!!!!!!

im asking, what is the fastest stuff! this is not a hard question, and by going to a website to look at a product for sale, that doesnt tell me how fast it is or how good it is, so thanks a lot for no help

motoamd and subhuman, you guys have the right idea, thank you for your input, i appreciate that

what board is best for the intel 845 and 850 chipsets? i seem to see a lot of asus boards around...are those the best?

I got my motherboard amd xp 1800 + heatsink and fan from monarch computer for $316.00 and 512 mb of ddr ram from crucial for $190.00.
I've had many computers, and the Soyo dragon + is the fastest and most stable of them all, you could get the 1900, 2000 or 2100, but for the money I think the 1800 is plenty fast, and crucial has always done great for my systems.

How about this one....

Intel Pentium4 1.8A GHz 512K Socket 478 Processor 400MHz Processor Bus-
Retail Box version with Fan = 194.00 w/ shipping

Asus SiS 645 Chipset ATX Motherboard Model P4S333 Socket 478, Supports FC-PGA2 Pentium4 (Williamette/Northwood) 1.4Hz to 2.0GHz+. FSB: 400MHz. Memory: 3 x DDR DIMM Sockets, Max: 3 Gb unbuffered PC2700/PC2100/PC1000 non-ECC SDRAM Memory. 6 PCI Slots, 1 AGP = 117.00 w/ shipping

CORSAIR MEMORY CM64SD256-2700CX2H C2 256MB PC2700 DDR RAM 333MHz - OEM CM64SD256-2700CX2H. DDR, PC2700 32x64, Non-ECC, 184-Pin, CAS2 -Unbuffered Requires DDR supported Motherboard - Lifetime Warranty.
= 143.00 w/ shipping

total = 454.00

You could go with a cheaper sis645 board, but the asus in both the sis and i845 chipsets have truly been the oc achievers...

May want to look at getting a decent power supply

350watt enermax or 350 watt antec....53-59.00

also

Get an aftermarket hsf like www.pcpowercooling.com's 19.00 socket 478 fan

grand total = 526.00 for a nice system with screaming potential...

Mine is simlar except the PS (at the moment) and the ram (512mb of kingmax, but the corsair is cas2 rated memory)
, but I achieved so far 2.52ghz (140fsb) and 350mhz ddr...

I'll assume no overclocking.

CPU: Pentium 4 2.4GHz (available in Taiwan and Japan, import it)
Mainboard: ABIT TH7II
Memory: Samsung 16-device PC800 RDRAM

If you decide to go AMD, definately do not go for the 2100. The price premium it commands is NOT worth an extra 67mhz. You cant even notice a performance difference if its under 10%, only benchmarks will. The increase from 1.67Ghz to 1.73Ghz is only like a 3.5% increase in clock speed (i think). So really, dont buy top of the line unless all you run are benchmarks (unless you want to waste money)
I say take the cash you save and buy some extra ram.
