Hi, just ordered a Soyo 6BA+IV - I want to know what the fastest PIII processor that is supported by this board.

What version of the Bios is needed to run the processor?

Is there any problems I should know about with this motherboard?

Thanks for your help.

Best way to find out is to go to soyo's home page and download the manual for this board. It will tell yu all you want to know.

I appreciated your suggestion Tbalon, however the manuals usually aren't kept up to date on CPU changes. I have found a listing on Soyo's web site that shows that the motherboard can take a PIII 800.

I have tried to get into Soyo's "FTP" site to see if additional bios are available, but their site is down.

I know that the my Asus P3B-f motherboard could only be upgraded to a PIII 850 based on the bios available on their main site.
The FTP site offered Beta bios that allowed the system to use a PIII 1100.

I want to know if anyone knows of additional bios that are available to allow the Soyo motherboard to go higher than the PIII 800.

CPU multipliers are locked. It is important the bios supports the proper Vcore. If a mobo supports the 1.75 Vcore needed on the CD0 Coppermines, there is a good chance it will work. The 800 - 850 stated limit is rarely true.

If I'm remembering right, a P-3 1gig is the fastest you can put i there.

Either the 100 or 133 FSB variants.

(running 2 Soyo 6ba+IVs right now but only with a p3 700 and 600).

Apparently these guys shoe horned in a 1.13 PIII - Linky

We ran our production model through its paces using a variety of motherboards, all updated with the latest BIOS revision to support the 1.13 GHz Pentium III. Both the Asus P3C-E equipped with the Intel i820 chipset and 128 MB of PC-800 RDRAM and the Via Apollo Pro 133A chipset-based Soyo 6VCA running 128 MB of SDRAM were able to finish all of our redundant benchmarks without a single problem. The platform that consistently turned in the fastest scores was the i440BX based Soyo 6BA+IV, however, and therefore this board was used for our benchmarks.

Where did you get your board at? I am looking for the exact same one to upgrade my kids setup

Shagger I ordered my motherboard from " Just Deals".

They told me it was going out on 2/06, but as of yet I have not been sent a tracking number nor have they answered my e-mail to explain what has happened to my order.

The site doesn't have the best reputation but I had to take the chance.

I also ordered my SOYO 6B+IV from JustDeals.com - They gave me a tracking number as soon as my board shipped. They said two days from ordering to shipment and they didn't steer me wrong. JustDeals.com has a reseller rating of 3.1 but my Dad's stuff came from them no problems and mine seems to be fine (tracking number says it will be delivered tomorrow). I haven't had to RMA anything and that seems to be a big part of their problems along with Customer service.

It looks as if the last customer comments were from September 4th 2001. Perhaps they have cleaned up their act in the past few months...

Hi Shagger, it seems you are right. I got my motherboard last night. I never received any information from them about the shipment though.

The board looks brand new, retail box, includes Norton Antivirus software, Norton Ghost, and Adobe active share software and ide cables.

The manual says it can take an 800MHz PIII - I will still try and research Soyo's site to see if it can go up to a 1.0 GHz.

Hope you receive yours today.

Got mine today - no probs. I will install it this weekend and we'll see if it works... I'll slap in a p2-400 to get a baseline then move on up to a p3-whatever the fastest it can handle.
