Fastest non-Raptor drives?

What are the fastest non-Raptor drives? I've been doing some reading at Storage Review and here at the forums and I want some opinions 🙂

Really? I would have thought lower = faster since there's less to look for...

nope, higher density = more information per pass.

When the raptors were coming out, I know there was some maxtor drive that was the closest in performance. The Maxtor is probably still the best for cost versus speed and capacity, but there may be other faster ones now.

WD 4000 KD i think, it's faster than the 500GB seagate barracuda, there's a 500GB version now, but i haven't seen the benchmarks on it.

Tom's HDD charts are a waste of time, all synthetic benches and bull imo. I much prefer this : http://www.storagereview.com/comparison.html
