Is there an advantage to using ones other then tcp/ip? i transfer dvd vobfiles between my pcs sometimes..only get about 5.9MB/s🙁

A while ago, we had a big discussion about speed differences.

It seems that while using small Network (less then 10 computers), there is no real difference.

In theory switch is faster then Hub, and NetBEUI may transfer files (locally) slightly faster then TCP/IP.

In reality, none will boost more then few percent.

5.9MB/sec on a 10BaseT or 100BaseT network? If 10BaseT, don't complain! If 100BaseT, make sure all NICs on your network are actually connecting to the switch at 100/full-duplex. If so, try using different cables (the shortest needed to fit your needs; don't use a 300ft cable to connect 2 pcs only 5 feet apart).

its ~6 MegaBytes a second a 100Mbit/s network using a switch🙂 5Mbit per second would take ages to transfer a dvd hehe🙂 so i guess i have 48Mb/s over a 100Mb/s network hmm. and yea they are intel networking cards except for the laptop😛 i have 7200rpm relatively new hds in these comps, so i'm not sure thats the limit😛

Just a precaution ... you're sure DMA is turned on on both comps right? I get aprox the same speed outta my LAN, but then I know it's the one hdd holding me back (old seagate 6GB one)... it's probably not that, but it doesn't hurt to make sure.
