The fastest-growing group of illegal immigrants in the United States doesn't speak Spanish. They typically aren't found at day labor sites or streaming across the Southwest border into the U.S.

Instead, they're here in America working in tech companies, small businesses, as engineers or other highly skilled jobs. And they're coming from India.

No hate towards any group, but if you read the article, it seems very biased. It almost sounds like "Oh hey, look some friendly illegal immigrants. But they are illegal because of our broken system. Let us all hug and sing Kumbaya"

''My knowledge tells me that most of the Indians we interact with are highly educated ? doctors, engineers and business owners," said Jagdip Ahluwalia, director of the Indo-American Chamber of Commerce. ''I personally have not run into any undocumented Indians here, and I've lived here for many years."

Well I guess that is similar to how I say "I never saw anyone doing drugs in high school, and I went to a bad high school". Just because I didn't see them......

And this is not a hate thread on anyone. I am just pointing out the bias in the article.

Completely agree. (I am a newly, as in 5 years ago, naturalized citizen that was born in India)

Seriously though, my dad does payroll/accounting for some Inidans in my area and man the things that you see in the books and the people that they employ. Makes me sick. Considering how hard my parents worked to set up a life here for me and my brother then you have these people that come here illegally and live here for 5-7 years making 50k+/year, paying no taxes then they just leave with all that money. No money returned to community or anything. It saddens/upsets me that my fellow country man have such horrible morals.

Yep, its a rather insignificant point of discussion.

Indians vs. Mexicans, 2000 --> 2006:
Indians: 120,000 --> 270,000
Mexicans: 4.7 million --> 6.6 million

btw OP, nice selective quoting from that article. the legal immigration system is broken.

remember when new Passport apps for US Citizens were getting delayed ...
did all of them cancel their vacation plans ... no
did all of them gave up and didnt try to cross into mexico for vacations illegally ... no
did the DHS had to relax the rules / give extensions to them ... yes

now if thats how backlogged it is for US citizens just to get a passport, just imagine how broken the system is for legal immigrants who dont have a voice in the system ...

so if legal is legal, all those who went to canada/ mexico for their vacations w/o passports should have been banned from re-entering .. right? and why relax the laws for them?

ppl even in the NIW class are stuck (National interest waiver applicants) - you would assume since its in national interest they would have legal status quick & easy ... well only easier then normal high skilled h1b.

legal is legal. so far i am in my 9th year LEGAL stay, spent more than 16K in fees and lawyers, and I am still 3-4 years away from greencard. you expect poor mexicans to pay that much to stay legal. get real.


illegal skilled indian H1bs ... are very few and they do need to be judged case by case.

So, because the "laws are broken," anyone has the right to trounce the laws and just come on in? Why don't we just have wide-open borders while we're at it?
