Fastest Dual Athlon w/o liguid cooling

I have a Tyan S2460 , 2 1.2Ghz MPs and 512 MB ram. The video is an ATI 9000. So far no signs or heating on the MB power connector.
My static 5v is 4.73v and under heavy load it drops to 4.68v (information from tyan tool ).

What is the fastest dual athlon system out there not resorting to exotic cooling? Is there anything I can do to double (or more) the speed of my present system?
Should I go with XPs? What CPU will this mobo accomodate even though it apparently detects up to 1900?

thanks for any info.

Here's mine. It's not the fastest, but it's a lot better than yours (😉 j/k)

Tyan Tiger MP (S2460)
2xAMD Athlon XP 1800+
1280MB Registered ECC PC2100
Radeon 9700 with modified BIOS
80GB Western Digital SE Drive

If I wanted to *double* the speed of my system, I'd go for the top end Xeon processors. I've never tried the Tiger with processors over 1900, because I can't afford for them not to work.

I'm not sure what AMD's plans are for the MP, but it only goes up to 2800+ currently. You'd need a Tiger MPX or one of the new Thunder boards to use those.

I use regular HSFs on my system, by the way. Is it really to the point that it's that slow for what you do? I'm sure that I don't have to tell you that buying dually stuff is much more expensive than regular hardware.

Edit:Clarity.

Definitely better than mine. You have a little over 300mhz per cpu on my old 1.2s. I would like to move up to the 2400 but have no idea if my MB would work with it.
I am thinking of trying a couple XP 2200s with the top L5 bridged. That leaves me with a MB not properly detecting the CPUs. Do they perform correctly regardless?
Is the old S2460 going to be starved for power with these CPUs? I think I need to upgrade once then wait for hammer prices to settle into the range I can justify before the next leap forward with a new system? Too many choices makes Rooster indecisive.

I missed it the first time I read your reply - you use XPs. Was there any problems making them MPable?
What did you use to complete the bridge?
Thanks,
Rooster

JSYK - on your "rig" page the MB is listed as S2640

No problems at all. I used a mechanical pencil. They now ID as MPs. It's a nice, easy mod. On a funny side note, I had a slot 1 Celeron 366 back in the day, and it was really flaky. Well, I was getting frustrated, so I started pouring over it. I found a broken trace, grabbed a mechanical pencil, filled it in, and it worked fine from that day on.

Well worth the $0.59 😛

I don't know if it will run a 2200+ at 2200+, or at 1900+. I'd think that since the processors are multiplier locked, they would still work, but I'm not willing to bet $250 on it! As far as power, Tyan recommends 30A on the 5V rail for the Tiger MP. I have 35A if I remember correctly. The next thing that I upgrade will be my PSU for sure. I'd like to have 40A just to be safe.

Thanks. I'll fix it in a minute.
