Fastest CPU in an ASUS P2B?

I have an early model ASUS P2B motherboard. Currently it's running a Celeron overclocked to 550, in an S370 card.

What's the fastest CPU that can be used in this motherboard? I recall seeing an article recently that said certain (Coppermine?) Celerons up to 1.1 or 1.2 ghz could be used in a P2B, but now I can't find the article.

Awhile ago I tried a Celeron 600 and it ran ok but required elevating the voltage but at 600 wasn't much of an improvement over the overclocked 550. The 600 didn't like being overclocked in this motherboard (I even tried a second with similar results).

Any suggestions?

I stopped with a Coppermine P3-850 at this point using an S370-DL card. Officially, the highest supported is the 1GHz P3 running at 100fsb. Unofficially, the highest P3 using 100fsb is the oem chip running at 1.1GHz. Apparantly, there is some bios bug that still needs to be fixed so that the p2b will recognize the 1.1GHz cpu, but it runs fine with only the 1GHz chip. But there you have it, take your pick if you can still find these rare 1-1.1GHz coppermines :)

By the way, the most recent bios is 1014 beta2 that was just released few weeks ago. Dunno if it fixes the 1.1GHz bug, but surprisingly, it adds support for some Tualatin cores!! :D

Hey: got this P2B too & the PIII 850....to go further up need to wait for the BIOS upgrade promised by ASUS...maybe it will never be available!!...

Good Luck ...
