What is the fastest CPU for Asus P8Z68-V Pro?

I will buy a Core i7 2600K. In the future what will be the fastest CPU for this motherboard?

Next series of Intel processors are Ivy bridge but noone knows if 1155 will be supported or not. Next series of mobo/socket are already on their way so doubt the processors supported by 1155 or Z68 will get any faster

Ivy Bridge will not only be for LGA1155, but just like Sandy Bridge it will be for 1155 first. The problem is whether or not the current chipsets like Z68 will support it.

Although if any of the current chipsets are more likely to support Ivy Bridge, its going to be Z68, but I wouldn't count on it.

Pretty sure Intel and the mobo manufacturers have both stated that the socket 1155 Ivy Bridge CPUs will work in P67/Z68 with a BIOS update.

OP: Ivy Bridge (22nm process) CPUs will be released around March 2012. I doubt anything after that will be the same socket and compatible with current P67/Z68 boards.

thats what I was thinking. I believe theres an intel rep that confirmed this on one of the forums as well.
IB will be supported through bios update; however most will buy new mobos when chips come out anyway.

This may be true, but I wouldn't bet my life on it. Anyone remember similar promises that Prescott P4 CPUs would work with older P4 motherboards? I even had motherboards that said PRESCOTT really big on the motherboard box... but weren't compatible because Intel changed the power requirements at a late date.

Yes it is true that IB will work. But there are M/B that are out now that are even more IB ready than others . The best example is the MSI z68 M/B . I won't go into detail as google is your friend that loves to be used.

Well I think maybe with all you just said that a link should be provided as your so called data does NOT correlate to what intel has told us about the 22nm process . AT same power usage we should have a 20% increase in clocks ,At same clock with 50% less power usage. Than we will see a better IGP with open CL . You saying that a better IGP isn't important . Than read the llano review comments. There are also additions AVX. Also quicksyc. will be even faster due to the higher stock clocks. Also any other small advances Intel adds that we don't know about . You should serve coffee with your banter. A link you should have offered with your reverie.

Given the OP's title for this thread, it will be useful to some (such as me) to see some posts about their expectations, gratifications and frustrations with this mobo.

I'll probably fire up mine for the first time sometime during the next week.

Also -- while I continue to search for links with advice on configuring ISRT, TPU, EPU,GPU-Boost, Mem-OK!, the AI Suite II and similar utilities -- feel encouraged to contribute . . .

I just hope this P8Z68-V and "-Pro" doesn't turn out to be "The nightmare motherboard" that OC'ers on the i4Memory Australian web-site eventually called the old ASUS Striker 680i . . . .

For me, I never assume that a manufacturer's disasters and shortcomings define their continued market-entries in future cycles . . . .

. . . I've just grown to hate "680i" -- and still wonder . ...

Given the relatively mild update that IB seems to be, I doubt Intel will be changing the power requirements.

this should be fine. I remember the whole Prescott business, but that was a bigger change.

Think of this as like the Penryn change. I believe boards then were fully forwards compatible.

I wanted to post this video on the MsI gamer M/B that has GREAT support for IB.

Now there are a few MSI Z68 M/Bs . Not all have the exact same IB support . Heres the one you want . But be warned these are hard to find in the states or at least I couldn't find one . Robert got me one.

Now pay close attention to the PCI-E slots and their locking mechanism , This is how you can see your getting PCI-E 3 . That SB doesn't support but IB does. This caused me to be a little late with getting my wifes gamer rig up and running. But as is usually is the case Robert came threw for us. This is the setup that I told you about a bit ago My Wife got EVERTHING we needed to make this thing a Monster thanks to robert. I wish I could post benchmarks but that won't happen.
