i know this is kind of an overclocking question but how fast are the nVidia 6800(GT) and radeon x800 and 9800 cores? i downlaoded atitool and its taken my 9550 core all the way from 250 to 400??!!!??? is that normal or this dangerous? it'd shut down if i went too high right? i dont know a whoel lot about video cards but i got a heatsink with a fan on video card. it kinda makes me happy and scared at the same time anyone have some core speed knowledge or memory speed knowledge too for that matter

I think that is a 9600 core and the stock speed for a 9600pro is 400mhz, so I don't think it's unusual for a 9550.

Cards today are just catching up with the 9600XT which ran at 500Mhz stock and overclocked to 600mhz. Of course, with only 4 pipes and the special black diamond construction, it was easier for the 9600XT to clock higher.

my 9600xt overclocks to 530 only but yeah you should be able to do at least 400-450 on a 9550 (i have one as well), just look 3dmark01/03/05/aquamark 3 and check for artifacting

ooooooo, my friend bought a video card and the salesguy was like atleast get the 9600, he said he had it and loved it, i didn't know much about video cards until maybe this week, i thoguth the made pixels and jut had some memory stuck on to them. it makes sense now i think, it isn't your video card that determines how good stuff looks, it just renders the image right?

who were you before you were banned?

seriously, a 9550 is just a crapptastic 9600, most likely crippled even more than usual by a 64-bit data bus. My 9800np, stock 320/290 does 480ish on the core, with some heavy duty after market cooling. You should be fine to go up a little higher.
