I would go with the Plextor 12x10x32 SCSI myself...in fact I think I might get one right now. 🙂
 
I have the Yamaha 16x 10x 40x CRW2100EZ and it rocks, Copy a CD 654meg in under 5 minutes, 4.65 to be exact. It has an 8 meg buffer, using Pony 16x media
I don't know where you get your info, send some links or something as I want to checkout the reviews also.
All I know is that this baby flies.
 
I have the Plextor 12x4x32 SCSI version and i have never burned anything under 12x 😛 hehehe... Go with a Plextor you wont be sorry. also CloneCD supports this drive. I have yet to get coasters from this drive. Hope that helps.
