Fastest Bittorrent Client

What's the fastest bittorrent client out there. I'm using bitcomet but i'm finding my u/l speed is faster than my d/l. What do you guys think is the fastest client?

If your upload speed kills your bandwidth, then just limit the speed a bit. In bitcomet, right click on the file and go into properties or something. You can set the max upload speed. On my cable connection, I find about 20K/sec to be the sweet spot. Just try to keep a 1:1 upload and download ratio so you don't leech.

They pretty much download just as fast. It mainly depends on

1) your internet connection
a) are you uploading too much? uploading too much causing your downloading capcacity to severely decrease. try setting your upload to about 80% of its maximum capacity.
b) is someone else on the network uploading too much or downloading too much? tell them to stop, lol.
c) are your ports properly forwarded? google "ShieldsUp".

2) how your client is set up
a) are you connecting to a lot of peers/seeders? if you're connected to a LOT of peers than that can bog your connection down. i connect to about 70 clients per torrent. i find that reasonable.
b) are you connected to barely any peers/seeders? when connecting to a torrent with only 4 seeders and 5 peers don't expect to max out your connection.
c) is the seeder/peer ratio low? the more peers that you're connected to or are on the torrent, the worse the download speed will be. if the torrent has 43 seeders and 350 peers then you might have a small chance of getting good speeds, but the chances drop. mainly because most people have way faster download speeds compared to upload speeds (like 1500/256, 3000/384, etc).

I use azureus and max out my connection about 95% of the time. Its mainly just setting it up your client and connection to its full potential. Another tip is getting a packet shaper like CfosSpeed or using one on your router if it has one. I have noticed an improvement in my connection with CfosSpeed + linksys's WRT54G QoS feature.

what does shieldsup have anything to do with proper ports? I can't seem to see where shieldsup tell you if you have proper ports forwarded...

Once you've hit Next and get to a screen where there's a box, type in the port(s) you use and click on "User Specified Custom Port Probe" right under it to the left.

Then once you get the results it should say either Stealth, Open, or Close. If the port says Stealth its a bad thing; you need to recheck your port forwarding. If it says Open or Close then you're good to go.

strange, i forwarded my ports correctly to my router but it still says stealth under shieldsup

Uhh, it doesn't matter which client you're using, as long as it's a good one. Using a different client isn't going to magically raise the upload speed of the seeders.

forward 6881-6999 unless u got some fancy private tracker that uses different. and yea limit up to 80%
quality of the swarm is not osmething u can control though

I assume you're not running a software firewall? Check your dsl or cable modem. Some of them (like mine, I have a Westell modem from Bellsouth) have a NAT on them. So you have to forward on that too.

i can upload about 75-100 kb/s. however if i limit it to 25-50 kb/s i find my d/l speed increases greatly. i dont understand this. i thought the principle of bittorrent is the faster you u/l the faster you d/l. why is this??

Yeah, a private tracker I'm on has banned, unbanned, then rabanned bitcomet several times because they keep finding things that mess with tracker stats or tracker load, etcetera.

Heh, same here. I'm trying out UTorrent now. Seems pretty good so far.

I like Azureus. I like the interface, the fact it's got an active development community and plugin interface, and most of all, the safepeer plugin. I like to be able to snag a TV show episode if I missed it without fear of going to prison and having teh unwanted buttsechs.

Bitcoment will be the fastest one. It's C++ Based.

Look at Azureus. IT's a powerful client sure and it's great, but its Java based. It kills my BF2 and my HD lights are flashing like insane when I have Azureus on. Plus, we all know how Java runs on Windows right? Like CRAP.

Uses 1% of my aging cpu at most and doesn't affect games or encoding at all. You have the latest java build? Azureus isn't the only reason to get it, older java versions are succeptible to security holes and such... http://www.java.com

I have the latest build of Java.

javaw.exe: 65.420k of memory usage. THat's not too great when I only have 1gb and BF2 needs to run. Since when was Java fast though. You have to admit everytime you launch a java app in IE or FF, it takes a LOT longer to load than a simple C++ application that does the exact same thing. Windows + Java = disaster.

thus the reason Kazaa sucked. I wish they would have programmed that in C++, but oh well. Now that I use a torrent to download my ISO's (all linux/unix stuff) I don't need that Java junk anymore. Tho, I do find I AM u/l a lot mroe than I d/l. My ratios are always 1.8 or 2.5 ish or so. and I only u/l at around 20Kbs wierd 😉
