Surprised Georgia is one of the worst. I thought they were booming.

Georgia has a big problem in real estate. Too many over leverage house buying and bubble. Now it is busted and Georgians are still paying for it.

High ranking states such as TX, LA don't have the RE buble problems.

They are getting rid of the small business tax and replacing it with a corporate income tax.. how is that any better?

Because it means my wife's small business actually has a snowballs chance now that she only has to pay federal tax.

Although some of the new budget stuff is just bullshit. I'm looking to change jobs because of this new budget I'm now considered a state employee because I work for a University hospital and I'm in a union. So when our contract is up this year I'm going to take a huge pay cut because of benefit increases and all that. Already interviewed at a new non-union private sector job.

Personally I think our awesome governor of Michigan is going to find himself out of a job in a couple years and the exodus is going to continue out of this state as the snowbirds will just move to Florida and not come back due to the pension tax. Oh and not to mention completely RAPING funding for schools. Yeah thats a great way to increase your economic growth by fucking with education.

Not surprised about Michigan. Oddly though I just started a new job today in MI outside of Detroit. They mostly serve the auto industry, which at this time seems to be doing fairly well for the big domestics.

And this was moving from NY where I couldn't find a job, which although has a horrible deficit and fail laws, has been growing decently.

But yeah, I thought Georgia was doing pretty well.

If she makes any profit, she will also owe some to the state, though it may be lower than under the SBT. For more profitable small businesses though its much higher.

Odd that NH is in the slowest list. Relative to other states, we seem to have our crap together. At least that is what the unemployment stats suggest (4.9% of workers are unemployed ion NH, compared to the national average of 9%).

The company is in Wixom and I'm in a hotel there looking for an apartment close by. I'm not familiar with the area but Wixom and Novi seem like decent places so I'm gonna try to find a place there.
Yeah, those areas aren't too bad. You should be able to pick up something nice and affordable, also your commute won't be terrible. If you were looking for a nicer area (i.e. more expensive) you could check out the West Bloomfield, Bloomfield Hills area.

Hah I actually was just through that area tonight when I went to Pontiac. Yeah that seemed like a super nice area. Today though I looked at an apartment in Novi and it was like $700/mo which is about what I was thinking of. But I'd think in Bloomfield it would even be much more than that.

Hope it wasn't Novi Ridge, that place is ghetto, lol

Used to work in Novi, lived in Northville for about 3 years

LOL nope don't think I've even seen that one. I just went down Pontiac Trail and there's a ton of them like Hillside, Portsmouth, The Village, The Springs, Stone Ridge, and several others all within a mile or two.

I looked at Portsmouth. None of them have gotten very good reviews online but the place seemed very nice to me. And the last apartment complex I lived at got pretty bad reviews (would have been worse if it wasn't for the 5 star ones written by the management) but it was nice and I had no complaints at all over 2.5 years.

Really? Gaming take is down or flat for like 5 straight years. Pennsylvania brought in more gaming tax revenue than NV last year.

Meh my company grew its earnings this past quarter, wasn't a huge gain but considering all of our competitors are still losing money it was very nice. We also don't operate solely in NV, so gambling in general is good for us.

My gripe about this list is that it's not temporally relevant. As I mentioned, they said NV was top-10 because of growth in the early-/mid-2000s eve though it's now shrinking. Well, CNN Money just released a similar story today based on 2010: http://money.cnn.com/2011/06/16/new...dp_fastest_slowest_growing/index.htm?iid=Lead

Top 5:
North Dakota 7.1%
New York 5.1%
Indiana 4.6%
Massachusetts 4.2%
West Virginia 4.0%

Bottom 5:
Wyoming -0.3%
Nevada -0.2%
Arizona 0.7%
Oklahoma 1.0%
Montana 1.1%

Wyoming was #1 fastest growing state in the DailyFinance article but due to flawed methodology. In reality it was #1 slowest! Nevada-Oklahoma-Montana went from #7-8-9 fastest to #2-4-5 slowest. Massachusetts and Indiana went from 4th and 9th slowest to 4th and 3rd fastest.

Man, it's telling what poor journalism and flawed methodology can do.
