You have to disable compatibility checking to install it. It doesn't speed anything up, but I like it for the load timer. I'm sure there's a way to disable compatibility checking in about:config, but I use the Mr Tech Toolkit. It has some other useful options also.

Just use Firefox 3.1b3

It's pretty stable....http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/f...3/releasenotes/#issues

And a heck of allot faster than 3.0.8. I uninstalled 3.0.8 and am just using 3.1b3 as I haven't noticed any problems. It's fast and sleek.

Some add-ons may not work though. For me only 2 don't work and that's greasefire and Update Notifier.....Which is no big deal. If you install 3.1b3, 3.0.8 will still be installed as well.

Another thing if your isps dns sucks you can get hang ups and slowdowns. Try http://www.opendns.com I noticed a slight performance boot. This person explains what opendns does pretty well: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J0CVgZqvhHs

Try em out and see if you notice a difference.

Hi Crow. How does updating work for ff betas? Do I need to uninstall the old version and reinstall or can I just update? Thanks.

Just download and install Firefox 3.1b3 and it will install in it's own folder (c:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox 3.1b3\) and keeps 3.0.8 in it's original (C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\). Then test 3.1b3, if you find it stable enough and don't want to use 3.0.8 anymore then uninstall it. When going to uninstall 3.0.8
DO NOT check mark Remove my personal data and customizations....Or you will loose your add-ons and such. So don't check mark that when uninstalling 3.0.8.

As for updates. It updates the same as non-beta Firefox does......Automatically. So it will download and install 3.1b4 when it comes out. Or hopefully 3.1 final is next.

It's beta so it *can* crash and maybe do *odd* things. However so could 3.0.8 with a certain combo of add ons. So try it and if it acts up and you can't stand it, then stick with 3.0.8, I haven't noticed any major issues.
