Faster? USB 1.1 or Bluetooth

Was discussing this today and a off-shot topic remains unknown. My google searches haven't really found the rated speed for either.

Which is rated faster? USB 1.1 or Bluetooth?


PS. yea, I know one is cabled and one is not.... Thanks.

i believe usb1.1, bluetooth is incredibly slow.

Both Bluetooth classes are rated at traveling at about 1 Mb/s, with next generation products allowing anywhere from 2 to 12 Mb/s, to be determined at a later date.

The original goal of USB 2.0 was to have 10 - 20 times the transfer rates of USB 1.1, which offers 12mbps.

Ya, Bluetooth is ~700kbps, but it wasn't intended for heavy data xfers, but to replace light data cables.

Think of BlueTooth as wireless USB

And also think WiFi/802.11a/b/g as wireless Ethernet

If you mean wireless USB but much slower and has different uses, sure.

Well, Bluetooth is like "wire replacement" for low power/bandwidth devices, such as KB/mouse/cell phone etc, wich typically would connect via USB So, I am kinda right

Of course slower too, but I was just mentioning that fact in case people stumbled onto this thread and might not know the difference between BlueTooth and WiFi/802.11a/b/g

A good point. And if people are curious why the speed is so slow in Bluetooth, the SIG decided they would sacrifice bandwidth for power savings. Bluetooth chips are very low power (still a drain, but much better than other wireless technologies).

In general Wired is faster then Wireless (in regards to standards that are meant for the same type of work/device ... of course there are always exceptions to the rule).
