Faster RC5 in 2k vs. 98?

I recently switched over OS' to Win 2000 from Win 98se. I just happened to be watching my RC5 cracker work and it seems to be moving a heck of a lot faster. The mkeys/s aren't any significant amount more than in 98 but 2000 finishes a packet much faster than 98 did. It's not my imagination, it's really moving faster! 🙂 Any kind of explaination for this?

I think you are observing packets of different sizes.

packets can come in sizes of 1 work unit, up through 32. The large one's just contain more keys to crunch, and I suspect that's where the difference lies, because there's not a major difference between 98 and 2k.

Cheers.
