An SSD? It's generally the compression that takes the CPU horsepower.

Although compression will take more CPU time than decompression you can still be CPU bound. You're more likely to be CPU bound with 7z archives.

-Extract to a different drive tan the .7z archive is stored on

-Don't use drag n drop as this will first extract the files to Temp, then copy them to the destination, then delete the files from Temp (or just leave them behind, wasting space)

-A faster CPU with more threads helps. Hyper Threading also makes a difference

-Faster RAM might actually help

-If the extraction is slower than a regular file copy, you're probably not IO bound. However if it's the same speed as a regular file copy, a faster drive (or SSD) might help
