Is there any way to fix Windows problems quickly, without having to repeatedly restart it over and over again? Any software (other than Norton or McAfee)? Any books?
what kind of problems? windows must reboot for certain tasks, ie changing drivers and such. no way around that.
if you're talking about illegal operations, the ever-famous windows memory leak, etc., the best way to fix those in a permanent way is to format/ghost occasionally and reboot at least every couple days (irt memory leak).
Problems like Windows not starting - IOS error, General Protection Fault, complaints about missing .VxD or .DLL files or problems with them. I got this kind of trouble recently when I tried to install, ironically, Norton Systemworks (no automatic virus or system checking enabled) to prevent such problems.
I work at the Computing HelpDesk at school and someone had this same exact problem. Norton had uninstalled programs or drivers that it felt were no longer needed. In reality, these files were needed. Depending on which .vxd or .dll files are missing, you may need to reinstall the program or perhaps Windows.
