Hi,

I recently experienced a severe crash in win2k forcing me to reinstall. The crash was related to registry corruption (the "software" hive being 0! kb). Someone stated this could be the same isue as the fast shutdown problem in win98 (processor +733 and a hd with large cache).
Is there a fix for this?

I wouldn't worry too much about W2K regarding this issue.....if you read the article more closely, the only mention of Win2K or WinNT comes in the section when they give the warning regarding mucking around with your registry and how to back it up or repair it if something becomes corrupt....that is a general disclaimer they have on all of their tech advice patches which "suggest" a manual editing of the registry.
This issue is only for Win98 and WinMe (so far....):D

Actually, it is an issue in Win2k. You can fix it with something similar to the 98 fix, or you can disable write behind caching (which may slightly degrade performance).
