Fast PCMCIA compact flash adapter

I have a Dell 700m laptop that I use when I travel. My DSLR takes compact flash, but the Dell doesn't take CF natively, so I've been using an adapter. The speed is pretty darn slow, and it sucks up as much CPU as I can give it. Is this just the nature of the beast or is my PQI adapter just a POS?

If your 700m has a CardBus [32-bit] PCMCIA [16-bit] slot, then you can get a Delkin Cardbus to CF adapter and blaze away. Assuming you have a fast CF card.

IIRC, the speed pecking order goes like this: Cardbus > Firewire > USB 2.0 > PCMCIA. Having said that the internal chipset is all important and there is almost no way to know what's inside.

So head on over to Rob Galbraith's website, he's tested all the fast CF to whatever adapters to find your best price/performance choice.
