Fast PC - Low 3DMark 2001 scores

Hiya

As you can see from my sig below, I have a fast PC, but it only scored 6,200 and something last week, with multiple loops.

Fair enough I thought, I had changed my CPU, so I re-installed my graphics drivers, now on CAT 3.5. Now I get 12,000 something. Now correct me if I'm wrong, but isnt 12,000 marks a bit low for an XP3000+ with a Radeon 9700 PRO?

Extra details: No FSAA or AF enabled when tests are run, AGPx4 speed, Fast-write enabled, (CPU, FSB, GPU, Memory clocks are all stock speed).


My only idea is either to re-install my OS totally (which I will do at some stage later this year), or lump it... Anyone got any ideas?
PS: My 3DMark 2003 score is 4,800 which seems ok, maybe a bit low but I dont mind that.

Have you any idea if you have to re-install that after installing a new CPU? I did have it on before, but maybe thats whats wrong.

are you running anything else in the b/g while benching? once i forgot to pause my MBM5 and it was taking temps every second, affecting the benchamrk and giving me a low 3dmark01 score, but 3dmark03 didnt seem to care.

but, yeah, you should be higher. i'm at 12k-something on a xp1700+ (166x12.5) and a ti4200 (314/585).

Athlon XP 2200+
1GB Ram
GeForceII GTS
2 NICS (now one)
DVD & CD drive (both gone - replaced with 3 new drives)

Only real constants are HDD, mobo, and ram.

I haven't run 3dMark2001SE in a while, but if I remember correctly, a patch had to be installed to run the 2001 benchmark if you installed the 2003 benchmark... I'm thinking that the patched version of the 2001SE 3dMark may produce different results from the unpatched. How are your games running?

Maybe an O/S reinstall sounds right?

Could be leftover nVidia drivers. Those things are impossible to totally get rid of without a format.

4800 in 03 is expected from a stock 9700 Pro...could you post a link to the ORB?

Right, thanks for the ideas guys.

Could well be nVidia driver leftovers, although I did all the correct uninstall methods, I still find some strange entries in the Registry or System folders now and then (once -but only once- in a game it listed nVidia GL extentions while on my Radeon). I don't think its affected games though overall.

I can get around 20+FPS running 4xFSAA and 8xAF @ 2048x1536 in Return to Castle Wolfenstein so I think thats fine.
Can clock 60+FPS average running 4xFSAA and 8xAF @ 1280x1024 in Enemy Territory.
Often get between 40FPS and 99FPS on Counterstrike running running 4xFSAA and 8xAF @ 1024x768, depending on smoke nades


Link to Orb? No problem. Latest Active 3DMark 2003 Project I only ran the benchmarked tests for speed. I know the other tests run great.



By the way, I think CPU Score 361.0 CPUMarks is good isnt it?
