Fast Loading Website

I'm trying to decide between a clean, fast loading website here or a fancy, elegant website. What do you think?

What's the balance between image quality and loading times? In Fireworks, good quality is set to 80, so how far down should I go before the image will be noticably bad quailty?

its the sum of all the parts, not jsut the compression used on the images.


look on oswd.org for some ideas. THey have som really ncie ones.

I've also heard that search engines can find and analyze simpler sites better, any confirmers?
