I don't recall that the skunk was in a cage. I thought it was a wild skunk that kept eating a member's cat's food.

He put pills in the food and put it outside after locking his cat indoors, if I recall correctly. Skunk ate the food and the pills, then went for a swim in the wading pool and drowned.

Heh, ya learn something new everyday.

That's actually my favorite one. I had seen them all many many years ago, and only really recalled Wrath of Khan, because it was on HBO ~5 times per day back then, I was, I dunno, 7, and always got a kick out of the worms in the ears.

I recently re-watched all of them through Netflix, and Undiscovered Country was actually damn good.

I seem to recall you used to go into "STARWARZ FO LYFE!!!!" mode whenever Trek was discussed. It's still strange to hear you talk about Trek now since you've watched almost everything. :p

I still wanna know what a Martin Scorcese star trek would look like.

Serious.
OR, let Leonard Nimoy direct the next one. We know he can do it. Question is, does he want to?

I learned a long time ago that purbeast0 has awful taste in movies.

Sorry, purbeast0. You do. You really do.

...and you always say the same thing: "Don't listen to the nay-sayers. It's great! People just like to hate."

I'm going to *try* to find out if we've ever liked any of the same films...so at least there'd be some small bit of agreement :)

[edit]
Dawn of the Planet of the Apes - we both agree that movie was great! Too bad the last 2 movies ended up with their titles swapped.

i bet you i like A LOT of movies that you like.

if i had awful taste in movies would mean that we don't have many favorites in common. i guarantee you that i like many of the same movies as you do.

I kinda busted through the Trek shows over the last year--mostly in the background.

I think I paid attention to maybe 60% of them. I skipped a lot of Next Generation because so much of it was crap. I think I preferred the non-bizarro Voyager stories and most of Enterprise to everything else. ...that's not to annoy Trek people; I just thought those were better (yes, Voyager was mostly stupid, but whatever. It had the most engaging premise of all of them, imo).

Yes, I much prefer Star Wars. If I go gung-ho about it in Trek threads, it's pure trollery. :awe:

....also, that was before I actually started watching the Trek stuff. Now, I don't comment so much...except to say that Enterprise was best. (OK, maybe some of that is to troll; but I actually do believe it :D)

I think the $834M worldwide intake for both films may argue against that statement.

How much money did the Twilight movies make? Same thing. Abrams Trek was not Star Trek, it was a bastardized action movie with a flimsy as hell plot and a Trek skin.

And now it looks like it'll somehow get ever worse.

However, for example, no matter how financially successful someone is in making porn movies, I doubt you're ever going to consider them to be an accomplished director :)

There are many awful film sequels out there, outnumbering the good ones by probably 100-1, but the reason why they are made is because they make money.

Nimoy and Shatner are almost 84 years old. They probably have better things to do at this point.

Yeah he and Nimoy are the same age (just a month or two apart). They'll both turn 84 early next year.

EDIT: Actually, only 4 days apart.

Please describe how it's a "WOK copy". The only things in common it has with WOK that I can think of are the following:

1 - It's Star Trek
2 - The antagonist has a problem with the protagonist
That is really boiling it down, but you have it. The answer is the villain is trying to approximate Khan, from the motivation to the quoting of Shakespeare.

As I recall, Khan quoted Moby Dick. Did he also quote Shakespeare?

Khan's motivation was revenge, pure and simple, no matter the cost. Chang's wasn't. AFAIK Chang's motivation was to ensure that the Klingon Empire did not make peace with the Federation, but ideally he'd like to have it out with Kirk (because Klingons like to do that sort of thing, warrior to warrior, blah de blah de blah) as well.

If all Chang cared about was having a crack at Kirk, then the whole plot line wouldn't have happened in the first place. Chang would have showed up with the prototype Bird of Prey before the Chancellor's ship turned up, uncloaked, thrown down the gauntlet and a taunt or two, hope that Kirk rises to the bait, if not fire a few torpedoes at him then cloak and rip him a new one before Kirk thinks of modifying a torpedo to look for gaseous anomalies.

Of course there would have been no reason to do that because Chang's motivation wasn't revenge!

So, the two antagonists are alike because...? They both quoted stuff? Does that also mean Picard in First Contact was just like Khan because he quoted Moby Dick?

I'll watch it regardless because its Star Trek, but man are the F & F movies embarrassing, including the new ones. Vin Diesel and Paul Walker certainly don't help.

If someone tells me they like those movies, and then says oh and the new ones are even better, I automatically assume they are an idiot.

Never thought of it that way, good point.
