Why Abrams is leaving?

He has places to go, people to meet, and other franchises to ruin (Star Wars). Ok, ok, I know -- it would be a monumental achievement to sink lower than Jar Jar Binks, teen angst Anakin, etc, but he might be up to the challenge.

The thing that got me about the new Star Trek movies was the Enterprise having a throttle. That's so Galaxy Quest.

On the other hand, Galaxy Quest is an awesome movie. Still, not sure why they didn't stick with the giant iPad control scheme like all the other Treks had.

Only for those of us that watched enough Trek to get it. Plus it kinda ran through all the major parts of Trek lore- made up technology, cheesy sayings, a hypersexual captain, eye candy chick, guy, conventions, nerds at conventions. It was good, but to do any more would be as ridiculous as taking a little book like the Hobbit and turning it into three movies.

To be fair, Justin Lin took what started as a good franchise that was ruined with the second iteration and actually made something out of it. I didn't mind the Abrams Star Trek movies, for what they were: action movies in space.

I liked Better Luck Tomorrow.

Maybe, the Rock will be in this one! He'd make one bad ass Klingon.

Oh well it can't get any worse than it was. Maybe can actually implement some character development now.

Did it just become cool to hate on JJ Abrams or something? It seems like everyone here loved the 2 most recent movies while I complained in the corner about how shallow they were.

Now everyone hates them/JJ Abrams? That's good I guess.

Just become? No. It has been cool to hate on him for awhile now.

I don't get it though. For what he does (action movies), he does a enough good job.

it's been that way for a while. everyone on these forums (well not everyone, but about 99.999%) hate everything that is popular and successful. it's been that way here as long as i can remember too.

What happens when they realize that hating things that are popular and successful is popular and successful?

When I first started posting I got an infraction for guessing what the JJ in JJ Abrams stood for. Teehee.

I don't care for the "art-style" about the movies, or the fact that they tend to reach out for a broader audience (Chicks LOVE these movies). I just hope he doesn't fark up Star Wars. I'll go agaisnt the grain by saying that with the exception of Episode 1, I enjoyed the SW Prequels.

seriously?

anyway, those 2 Trek films were rather terrible. the Fast and Furious movies are only surpassed in their shittiness by anything that Michael Bay touches.

...this sounds like a match made in heaven. They can only get...better, right?

Yes, seriously. I thought Lucas would still be at the helm for Star Wars until the day he kicks the bucket.

Gotcha. I have to admit, I did not see any of the Star Wars movies completely, just bit and pieces here and there. :)

Anyone is better than JJ Abrams directing this franchise.

Uwe Boll?

Err, check out the general consensus in the movie thread regarding Star Trek: Into Darkness...

summarised: utter tripe

holy.. Han from that movie is the same Han in Fast and Furious?!

Justin Lin linked his previous movie to Fast and Furious.
Genius!

You can follow Han's story by watching, in order:

Better Luck Tomorrow
Los Bandoleros
Fast & Furious
Fast Five
Fast & Furious 6
The Fast & The Furious: Tokyo Drift

All directed by Justin Lin?
in which case I'm surprised he kill him in Tokyo Drift

Those Trek films were OK on their own, but they weren't really Star Trek Films. They were dumb action with no substance. I'm not a Star Trek fan, but those were so far away from what Trek fans love about the franchise.

And who gives a shit about Trekies. If the films are okay on their own, they are okay. If you can't live in a world where the source material differs from the mass market items, you're a fucking idiot. I have no problem with Starship Troopers (movie) being nothing like the book in tone or message. I love both and can appreciate both.

I am a pretty big Star Trek fan and I actually like the new movies quite a bit. I always knew there was something wrong with me.

As long as they keep Damon Lindelof far, far away from the script, it should work out reasonably well, I suspect.
