I've always considered myself somewhat of a pretentious gamer. I tend to buy AAA titles at full price and snub most free to play online games due to the lack of a gate check that a credit card brings. In the spirit of that pretention, it usually means I won't give many games a fair chance because I have my AAA blinders on.
I regret that, because after taking a chance on Farming Simulator 15 I have to admit I'm on board. There is every reason this game should suck. First, it's a Sim title that isn't made by Maxis/EA. Second, it isn't a AAA title. Third, it's a choose-your-own-adventure style sandbox game in the vein of Flight Simulator that requires the player to actually use their imagination and pretend that what they are doing matters.
I really like it. I killed three hours cutting down trees with a chainsaw, wrangling them onto a trailer, and then selling them. With lesser financial success I farmed some wheat and plowed a field. It's a lot like work, but not really. Anyways, ultimately what I'm doing here is offering my congratulations to the developer of this game. They actually took gameplay which on paper should be like watching paint dry and made it work. I'm not saying that everyone will like it and I'm sure the premise of the game will dissuade some people. It won't win any awards, but if anyone out there looking for something a bit different maybe give this one a look. I think there is a demo.
