so after a long day at school (8am to 10pm), i trudge on over to my car to see that my permit peeled off and fell face down on the dash resulting in a lovely $42

I'd fight it! If you just had the sticker peel off don't touch it and take a picture. Bring it in with you and also bring the parking sticker. If you've had it for awhile it's going to look/feel different on the sticky side especially since it was peeling off.
 
My step-dad got a parking ticket for "not displaying a valid ticket". He had stuck it to the windscreen, and it too had fallen off. He called them up, told them what happened, and they said to send the parking ticket in, along with the bit that fell off his window, and he got a letter a few days later saying it was being dropped.

You guys think you got it bad ? They just recently doubled the price of hydrant and double parking tickets to $110 in NYC. The idiots in charge are also creating huge no parking zones in places that used to be good spots.

so is the permit like a daily one time use permit? or is it a semester long permit?

Well, regardless of what type of permit it is, just go to the parking division or whoever is in charge of parking and tell them what happened? I mean doesn't that permit that you have prove that you can legally park there? I don't get why it's impossible to get this ticket dropped. 😕
 
parking tickets suck. I got one last week because the lot I have to park in is over half a mile away from my dorm, but on weekends we can park wherever. So, I parked my car in the lor closest to my dorm, and Monday morning went out to drive it back to the proper lot, and there was a parking ticket. Free parking expires at midnight on Sunday, and here at 10 am Monday morning they wrote me a ticket. I paid it, since I was in the wrong, but it annoyed me.

I would definitely try to fight your's. If you legitimately had a parking pass, it's not your fault if it fell. Maybe you should sue them for creating faulty passes that don't adhere well enough 😛
 
street parking sucks... the whole idea of an anti-towing alarm sensor in the 05 mustang sounds like ford is personally giving me a wink 🙂
