It appears to be a control/power play. OTOH, our military services are so intertwined nowadays that it might not make any difference. The services are not autonomous like the used to be. Because of the technology that is being used, they have become co-dependent upon each other to the point where there is hardly a distinction.

Time, as usual, will tell.
 
Why shouldn't you volunteer for anything?

Just wondering, I'm planning on joining the service in October, either the Army or the Coast Guard.
